• Hydrology and Dam Safety

  • Collection, consolidation, classification, storage and distribution of hydrological data.
  • Upgrading the network of hydrological, rainfall and weather stations.
  • Providing data for flood forecasting for Krishna Valley.
  • Issuing water availability certificate for projects with water consumption exceeding 3.5 TMC
  • Conducting flood study of all large and medium projects in Maharashtra.
  • Conducting replication study of dams, conformity study of dams and backwater study.
  •  Monitoring the work of 12 projects under DRIP-II.
  • Conducting annual safety inspection of selected large dams as well as all private dams.
  • Preparing detailed classification report after annual inspection of equipment installed on dams.
  • Submitting quarterly earthquake record report along with maintenance, repair etc. of seismometers.

• Central Design Organization

  •  To prepare general plans of irrigation projects (large and medium projects, lift irrigation schemes) in the state.
  • To prepare detailed designs of components like dams, weirs, gates etc.
  • To prepare designs of important structures and pipe distribution systems on canals etc.
  • To prepare equipment designs on dams.
  • To suggest solutions to technical problems arising in the case of under-construction and completed projects.
  • To undertake design work (on a consultancy basis) for semi-government/local and private organizations.
  •  To evaluate the designs done by private consultants and other organizations.
  • To prepare geotechnical investigation reports.
  •  To check the safety of old dams and to formulate designs for strengthening.

Maharashtra Engineering Research Institute

  • To undertake applied research work related to the sectoral problems of various projects under the annual research programme and to write research reports.
  • Conducting construction material and soil testing work in the Water Resources Department as well as road testing work in the Public Works Department and suggesting solutions.
  • Conducting remote sensing surveys of sediments in reservoirs, crop counting and verification, land use and land cover, green cover, water cover (Hydro Power Study) area measurement, GPS mapping etc.
  • Maintenance and repair of residential and non-residential buildings, premises and rest houses in Mary / CDO.

• Maharashtra Engineering Training Academy

  • Implementing necessary training programs in line with changing technology for engineers at all levels. (Basic, after promotion, revision, after transfer, face-to-face introduction to new subjects)
  •  Conducting training for government, semi-government and private departments and institutions.

 

• State Level Technical Advisory Committee

     Projects Under Construction:

  • Scrutiny & clearance to the proposals of administrative approvals costing more than Rs. 5 Cr. Submission to Government
  • Scrutiny & clearance to the proposals of revised administrative approvals costing more than Rs.5 Cr. for submission to Government / Irrigation Development Corporation.
  • Scrutiny & clearance to the proposals of M. I. Project to be proposed for Accelerated Irrigation Benefit programme.
  • Scrutiny and recommend the acceptability of increase in cost estimates due to change in design.
  • To give technical advice or assist the Government on any other technical issue specifically referred by the Government.

Completed and transferred projects (Special repairs, flood protection, expansion and Improvement)

  •  In the case of large, medium and small irrigation projects, the budgets exceeding Rs. 5.00 crore and up to Rs. 25.00 crore shall be scrutinized at the corporation level as per the scrutiny conducted by the State Level Technical Advisory Committee and the said scrutiny report shall be vetted by the State Level Technical Advisory Committee and proposals for administrative approval and revised administrative approval shall be submitted to the Government.
  • In the case of proposals for administrative approval and revised administrative approval exceeding Rs. 25.00 crore, proposals with recommendations shall be submitted to the Government after detailed examination through the State Level Technical Advisory Committee.
