About KWDT
Establishment : The KWDT was established in 1969 under the Inter-State River Water Disputes Act, 1956. The KWDT-II was established in 2004 to address the allocation of water between the states.
Report : The KWDT-II submitted its report in 2010, which allocated water to the states based on water availability, state demands, and other factors.
Challenges : Andhra Pradesh challenged the KWDT-II's 2010 report in the Supreme Court in 2011. Andhra Pradesh also challenged the KWDT's 2013 "further report" in the Supreme Court in 2014.
Telangana : After the creation of Telangana, Andhra Pradesh asked that the state be included in the KWDT and that the water allocation be redistributed among the four states. The Inter-State Water Disputes Tribunals in India are made up of the Chief Justice of India, a Supreme Court judge, and two other judges from the Supreme Court or a High Court.
