Government of Maharashtra (India) has established Maharashtra Engineering Training Academy (META), formerly known as Engineering Staff College (ESC) at Nashik on May 20, 1964. META conducts specialized training courses related to the field and conducts professional examinations. Only the in-service engineers of Water Resources and Public works Department working in state and Irrigation Development Corporations of the status of Chief Engineer, Superintending Engineer, Executive Engineer, Deputy Engineer and Assistant Engineer Grade-I are eligible for the training courses & professional examination of Deputy Engineer, Assistant Engineer Grade-I, Assistant Engineer Grade-II, Junior Engineer and Muster Assistant. Training courses for the officers, including and above the rank of Deputy Engineer are conducted at META Nashik Three additional training centers are also established under META. The training courses for the officers including and bellow the rank of Assistant Engineer Grade-II and Sectional Engineer are conducted at the three Regional Training Centers (RTCs). The training of Electrical & Mechanical branches are conducted only at RTC Pune.
RTC Auranagabad established on October 20, 1983.
RTC Nagpur established on October 28, 1983.
RTC Pune (Mechanical) established on August 10, 1983.
The Objectives of META are to impart trainings in the areas of engineering and management fields to the in-service engineers to develop the skills for the 21st century. META acts as a bridge between all the concerned departments of Maharashtra state to expertise the engineers.
1. Fundamental Training Courses: The fundamental training courses are conducted for the engineers newly recruited through the Maharashtra Public Service Commission in the Public Works and Water Resources Departments of Government of Maharashtra.
2. Specialized training courses: The specialized training courses are conducted for the in-service Engineers of Water Resources and Public Works Department. The specialized courses include the courses for Stress management, Personality Development, Information Technology etc.
3. Professional Examinations: Professional Examinations are conducted for the officers below the rank of Executive Engineer. Passing of the professional examination is compulsory for the in-service engineers of Water Resources and Public Works Department.
